The police investigation consisted of a secretly recorded phone call used to get Tim to make any admission in order to bring charges against him. After coercing Tim into saying a statement later characterized as an admission to abuse, Jennifer immediately addresses the March rental payment. In this phone call, she claims she has made the payment but will make no more due to the abuse allegations. At this point, this is the third call, after about two hours of interrogation. Tim is mentally broken and devastated, and doesn’t confront her on it further:
Jennifer was claiming this on the phone because Detective Ginger Fittings was sitting right next to her during the call, and had not asked or found out that Jennifer owed Tim thousands of dollars. Fittings already thinks Tim is a lying perpetrator, so she doesn’t bother to see if Jennifer skipped the payment like Tim claims she did in this conversation. If she would have checked the bank account, she would have found no payment was made by Jennifer at all in March of 2009:
